From anger to action. Honouring your rage.

Imagine feeling your anger and knowing how to harness that power to serve your needs (instead of freezing up, getting explosive, or crying.)

Imagine knowing the difference between righteous, instinctive anger and sour, muddy, resentful anger.

Imagine being able to catch yourself instead of getting stuck in passive aggression or overwhelming rage.

Imagine being able to trust your instincts when protective wolfmother anger roars forth, instead of getting scared or worried that you’ve overstepped your boundaries.

Imagine embracing your anger as a barometer of truth, an indicator of how well you’re tending to your boundaries, and those of your loved ones.

Imagine how it would feel to let yourself express your big emotions with clarity and power without scaring yourself (and others.)

Imagine learning all of these things by working with unique, creative, healing themes (drawn from mythology, anatomy and anthropology.)

So many contemporary cultures deny us our anger.

From a very young age we’re taught that anger is ugly, scary and so powerful it ought to be bottled up and held in tightly, because ‘nice girls aren’t angry women’ and angry men are violent.

But our anger is a neccessary and healthy guide in life, when felt and acted on wisely.

  • Yet, how do we know we’re angry when we’ve been taught to suppress and shut it down our whole lives?

  • How do we know how to differentiate between wholesome righteous anger and resentment, passive aggression and frozen states of ‘I’m not angry’ denial when we don’t see healthy anger modeled anywhere?

  • And when anger stops being controllable and spills out everywhere, on every occasion, how do we get a lid on the anger and keep from hurting ourselves and others?

  • How do we feel and tap into anger, and move from anger into action, when we don’t know how?

If you’re reading this and saying “yes, I have those questions!” I want you to know that becoming intimate with your anger and reclaiming it’s power in service of yourself is possible.

I want you to know that getting intimate with your anger(s) is the key to solid boundaries and a healthy sense of personal power.

headshots Janelle by Kate Mahaits oct 2019.jpg

Hi there. My name is Janelle and I’ve got a particular passion for anger-work.

My own initiations into rage and fury were catalyzed by a plunge into, paradoxically, deep grief.

The grieving unearthed pits of fury I’d been entirely unaware were living within me.

And the more I dug, the more I found to fuel my anger - injustice, cruelty, environmental degradation.

The more I dug, the more it also became clear that I’d been socialized into a ‘nice girl’ role, one in which anger was never ever allowed.

Never allowed because being ‘nice’ typically means putting everyone elses’ preferences above yours, and enduring and accommodating that which you do not want. Being ‘nice’ means not having healthy boundaries.

But oh, how rage and fury teach you of your boundaries, and when and why and how they’re being transgressed.

It’s for this reason, among many, that I’m a huge fan of anger-work. Because in my experience, grief and rage go hand-in-hand. Our individual and cultural healing requires relationship with both, as we live in contemporary cultures that work hard to cut us off them.

So I help people like you work with their big feelings and their lifestories.

I’ve been working as a trauma-informed Structural Integrator doing one-on-one hands-on healing bodywork for 13+ years, and teaching individuals and groups for even longer.

I’m skilled in braiding our creativity and our body-wisdom together with our deep cultural knowing and self exploration (and grief is a great catalyst for self-exploration) to create spaciousness, ease and joy in our lives.

So join me in honouring your anger. Reclaiming your rage. Harnessing your fury and reclaiming yourself.

It’ll be rich, healing, and, ultimately, very empowering.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to participate?

An email account.

Access to the internet.

Time. Each e-mail lesson will take between 20 minutes to a couple hours (which you can space out during your week, as needed.)

Why does this course have 10 daily lessons? And no videocalls?

Good question!

Working with our anger is an ongoing process, so I designed these 10 lessons to contain ideas, concepts, exercises and prompts that will spark the most shift for you, with the least time and financial cost.

I’m also delivering them to you daily so you can self-pace. It may be that you move through the material swiftly, and it may be that one lesson takes a month to digest and integrate. You’ll have all of the lessons on hand in your in-box, able to work with the next lesson as needed.

You can trust that this process is a good one, and if you engage with each of the 10 lessons, there will be plenty of transformation for you.

Can I get more services added to this? I want to work with you more/work with my whole lifestory.

Absolutely. You can also take my grief course.

I also offer an online 13-module transformational memoir-writing course The Art of Personal Mythmaking. It’s rich, deep and wonderful.

How are you qualified to teach anger-work?

Thanks for asking.

I’ve got 13+ years experience doing hands-on healing work, 4+ years experience facilitating group healing processes (my Art of Personal Mythmaking course) and I got almost all of my Hospice Yukon volunteer training done (all about death, dying, grief and how to accompany people in their grieving.)

The only reason I didn’t finish the Hospice Yukon training was because in 2010, after 4 years living with leukemia, my father died. At that moment I left the anticipatory training grounds of griefwork and I began my experiential apprenticeship with death and grief.

You may think that griefwork has nothing to do with anger-work, but I assure you, the two emotions go hand-in-hand. One is needed by the other, and both are states that are discouraged in many contemporary cultures.

I’ve gone through my own initiation into my anger and fury, learning, over many years, to shed the stiff and rigid good-girl-agreeableness that masked an overwhelming reservoir of anger (and grief.)

Learning to really and truly feel, and to discern between righteous protective anger, healthy boundaries and my own sense of self-worth was pivotal to understanding anger as a force for protection as well as destruction.
